Summertime usually means taking long vacations, shopping for a new wardrobe and hanging out by the pool, but with gas and food prices skyrocketing, everyone could use a few extra bucks in their pockets. You may not be able to get a raise at your day job, but you might be able to start a side hustle to put some cash in your hand. Here are some suggestions for earning extra bucks for the summer. Go ahead, get your hustle on!

Babysitter
– Babysitting may sound like a job for teenagers, but don’t rule it out too quickly. Most kids are out of school during the summer, but their parents still have to work. Babysitting a few days a week for several couples can put a nice bit of change in your pocket and keep you young at heart. At $12 an hour, playing hide-and-seek with the kids may not be such a bad idea.

Resume Writer
– With summer comes lots of new college graduates itching to land that first great job. If you are a wiz at grammar you can turn your flare with words into a lucrative hustle by writing and editing resumes. Not only will you make some cash on the side, but you’ll be helping others in their careers at the same time! Professional resume writing companies charge anywhere from $50 to review resumes to $600 to write them from scratch.

Party Planner
– Warm weather is always a good excuse to throw a party. If you’re a great host and have a way with organization, you could charge a few bucks to plan birthday parties, barbecues and other festive summer events. Professional planners usually charge about 10% - 15% of the event’s total cost.

House/Pet Sitter
– Are your friends and neighbors going away on vacation this summer? Offer to look after their house or pet, for a small fee of course. You could walk and feed the dog, pick up the newspaper, gather the mail and even run a few errands. Boarding for pets can get costly with families paying upward of $40 a day.

Professional Organizer
– Are you a feng shui feign? Can’t stand clutter? Use your spare time to become a professional organizer. Whether you’re helping businesses get their files together, or individuals straighten up their closets, you could earn big bucks just by helping others clean up! Many professional organizers charge between $35 and $50 an hour.

Tutor
– Most kids are out of school for the summer, but there are still plenty of them who need a little extra help before starting the new school year. If you’re good at fractions, maybe you could be a math tutor, or if nouns and verbs are your thing, you could help some students with English. Many tutors charge up to $65 an hour.

Video Editor
– Practically everyone has a digital video camera these days, but that doesn’t mean they know what to do with all those home movies! Many computers come equipped with video editing software, and you can put yours to work by charging to edit other people’s video projects. This is a fun way to use your creativity and a great way to test the waters if you ever want to do this on a full-time basis. Rates for video editors range greatly, but a newbie could charge $50 an hour.

Tech Consultant
– Lots of people have no idea how to assemble, program or operate their new high-tech toys. If you know your way around a remote control, you could charge by the hour and turn that nifty little know-how into some cold hard cash. There’s no real standard rate with this side hustle, so to figure out what to charge, just decide how much you want to earn per hour.

Movie/Video Extra
– Even if you’re not living in the land of the bright lights and big city, you can still get a taste of Hollywood, have some fun and fill up your wallet by becoming an extra. Sure, you may not win an Academy Award, but you’ll probably have a blast and be able to pay off your credit cards in no time. Register with a local casting agency (not a talent agency). You may have to pay a registration fee, but you could make about $100 a day.
